Bowen Chess Club at a Manchester Regional Tournament

Club players gained practical match experience and applied their classroom learning in a tournament setting.

Taking classroom learning into competition

In spring 2024, players from Bowen Chess Club took part in a junior tournament in Greater Manchester.

Formal games gave students the chance to practise time management, record their moves, follow tournament rules and review their decisions after each round.

Competition as part of learning

Before the event, coaches helped players establish a consistent match routine. Afterwards, students used their games to discuss opening choices, tactical opportunities and decision-making under pressure. The emphasis was not only on results, but also on concentration, etiquette and recovering well from mistakes.

Thank you to the families who supported the event, and well done to every player who completed the tournament.
